Information is power - and
information is essential for advocacy and lobbying.
In the year 2000 SAFOD started to establish a
Disability Documentation, Resource and Training Centre DDRTC - SA for
Southern Africa.
This Centre rests on three pillars:
A - Documentation and Resources
B - Information Services
C -Training Unit.

DDRTC - SA Structure.
The Documentation and Resources Department has
several databases with information and addresses of Disabled People’s
Organisations, international development organisations, civil society
organisations. There is a Documentation Database to find all collected
documents referring to disability issues. There a mailing lists for SAFOD
publications and a database of resource persons for the training unit.
The library collects printed matters, audio and
video material.
The Information Services Department develops and publishes SAFOD
publications like Disability Front Line, Disability Dialogue
and other printed media like this halftime report.
In addition Information Services runs SAFOD’s
Information Network with e-mail (safod@netconnect.co.zw), internet and the
SAFOD website www.safod.org.
On a long range it is planed to produce information material on
audio-cassettes (DAISY - Disability Audio Information System) and in Video (DIVIS
- Disability Video Information System).
The Training Unit in cooperation with the
Programmes Department offers training workshops in different areas, like:
- Information & Media
- Leadership & Capacity
- Institutional Building
- Business Training.
The DDRTC-SA provides all interested persons,
groups, organisations, institutions with data and information material on
disability issues. It supports the disability movement at all levels, the
DPO’s and their leadership, Governments and non-governmental organisations,
academic institutions, to advocate the rights and responsibilities of
disabled people in a society for all.
