Programmes

 

 

SAFOD Research Programme (SRP)

SAFOD is entering into the Main Phase of development through designing  of a project on disability and research. The project, simply called the SAFOD Research Programme (SRP)

 

Human Rights Project

Institutes an affirmative action to legally remove social disadvantages and put in place protective legal provisions for people with disabilities. Raises the legal literacy and advocacy skills amongst the leadership of disabled people. Promotes equal opportunities legislation.

 

Conscientisation and Public Education Programme (COPE)

Conscientists leaders and activists of the disability movement about the underdevelopment and marginalization of disabled people. Educates the public at large on the plight of disabled people.


Disability Documentation, Resource Centre for Southern Africa (DDRTC-SA)

Gathers, collects, compiles and disseminates information about disability issues. Publishes SAFOD’s newsletter “Disability Front Line” and other information materials. Provides training support to other SAFOD programmes.
 

Capacity and Institutional Building Strategy (CIBIS)

Trains leaders and activists of the disability movement in organizational management, fundraising and how to lobby and advocate for disability rights in their countries and in the region.
Strengthens the organizational structures of DPOs.

 

Poverty Alleviation Strategy Programme (PAST)

Assists persons with disabilities to engage in self-help activities by giving them appropriate training in business management and providing advisory services on how to secure financing and/or loans for their businesses or projects.
 

Women’s Regional Development Programme (WDRP)

Supports women with disabilities to develop the confidence and the leadership skills to obtain equal opportunities and equal treatment in disability organizations and main stream structures.

 

Children & Youth Programme

Raises the profile of children and youth with disabilities and promotes the delivery of their rights. Encourages and advises parents of children with disabilities to set up their self-help parent support groups and organizations. Encourages youth to be evolved in DPOs.
 

HIV/AIDS Information and Prevention Programme (HIPP)

Raises awareness on especially HIV/AIDS and other health related issues such as sexuality, reproductive health and family planning, hygiene, nutrition and  community based support among the leadership and the organizations of disabled people.

 

Disabled Women in Africa (DIWA)
Disabled Women in Africa (DIWA) is the independent women's wing of the Pan-African Federation of the Disabled (PAFOD), the umbrella of the
Disabled People's Organisations in Africa. DIWA was founded in
Dar-es-Salaam in 2002; but due to a lack of support DIWA remained
stagnant for some years. Then in 2005 SAFOD resolved to support the
further development of DIWA and accommodates now the DIWA Office
