The Regional Executive
Council governs SAFOD on behalf of the General Assembly and is responsible
for the management of the affairs of SAFOD. The Regional Executive Council
meets at least twice per annum; the quorum of the members of the Executive
Council is 50 per cent of the members of the Council. The Regional Executive
Council is elected by the General Assembly through a secret ballot for a
term of five years.

Duties of
Regional Executive Council (REC) Members
1. CHAIRPERSON:
-
To
chair and lead the discussions at meetings of the organization.
-
Signs
all records of the proceedings thereof and correspondence of the
organization as requested by the Secretariat.
-
Supervises and co-ordinates the assigned duties / responsibilities of each
executive member.
-
Comment publicly in accordance with the aims, policies, principles and
status of the organization.
-
Represent the organization in all appropriate fora.
-
To be
a signatory on the organization’s bank accounts.
-
Enforces the rules of the organization.
-
Consultation
with the Regional Executive Council on all issues which are then delegated
to the Director General for implementation.
-
Articulates the philosophy and goals of the organization.
-
Shall
perform any other duties that may be agreed to by the majority of the
Executive Council members.

VICE CHAIRPERSON – DEVELOPMENT:
-
Overseeing of all development programmes.
-
Promotes Capacity Building at all levels.
-
Monitors the organization processes and programme implementation.
-
Advises on the dynamics of programmes handling.
-
Initiating new development programmes based on current trends.
-
Consultation with the Regional Executive Council on all issues which are
then delegated to the Director General for implementation.
-
Advising on designing and / or planning of development programmes.
-
Articulates the philosophy and goals of the organization.
-
Performs the duties of the chairperson in her / his absence and other
duties assigned to her / him from time to time.
3.
DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON – WOMEN / UNDERREPRESENTED
GROUPS:
-
Overseeing of programmes, activities and issues concerning women and /
underrepresented groups.
-
Initiates programmes on the areas of concern.
-
Advises on the current / activities for the purpose of formulating
programmes.
-
Facilitates discussions at Regional Women’s Council Meetings and share
expertise.
-
Demonstrates Management and Administrative skills.
-
Reports to the Regional Executive Council on all aspects of areas of
concern in liason with the Chairperson of the Regional Women’s Committee.
-
Consultation with the Regional Executive Council on all issues which are
then delegated to the Director General for implementation.
-
Advising on designing and / or planning of development programmes.
-
Articulates the philosophy and goals of the organization.
-
Performs the duties of the chairperson in her / his absence and other
duties as assigned to her from time to time.
4.
HONORARY TREASURER / SECRETARY:
-
Initiating fundraising activities.
-
Recommending potential donors / funders to the Headquarters.
-
Approval of appropriate accounting systems and monitors their effective
implementation.
-
Presenting programme budgets and Financial Reports to the Regional
Executive Council.
-
Gives
advice on financial matters and handling of the same.
-
Meeting with Auditors whenever convenient in consultation with the
Director General.
-
Taking notes of the proceedings at all meetings which will then be shared
with the Director General to produce Minutes or Reports of the
proceedings.
-
Reading or delegating the reading of previous minutes of the Regional
Executive Council meeting (s).
-
Consultation with the Regional Executive Council on all issues which then
are delegated to the Director General for implementation.

Advising on designing and / or planning of development programmes.
-
Articulates the philosophy and goals of the organization.
-
Performs other duties assigned to her / him from time to time.

then are delegated to the Director General for implementation.

Advises on designing and / or planning of development programmes.

Articulates the philosophy and goals of the organization.

Performs any other duties that may be assigned to her / him from time to
time.

DIRECTOR GENERAL:
-
Overall planning, direction, control, supervision and co
ordination of the administrative work of the Federation.
-
Fundraising and control of Finances of the Federation.
-
Representing the Federation at regional, African and international levels
and foreign funding and development agencies for technical, financial and
other forms of assistance to the Federation.
-
Assisting affiliates in their negotiations with the national governments
for the implementation of recommendations of the Federation in particular,
and generally, for the realization of the objectives of the Federation.
-
Preparation and presentation of reports to the General Assembly and
Regional Executive Council meetings.
-
Appoints and terminates services of supportive staff.
-
Arranges meetings of the Regional Executive Council and General
Assemblies, Seminars, Conferences, Symposia and other general meetings of
the Federation and helping records thereof.

PATRON:
-
Markets the organization at a higher level and speaks on behalf of the
organization nationally, regionally and internationally.
-
Influences other renowned people on critical issues that benefit the
organization and its membership.
-
Used
as an arbitrator in matters affecting stability and conflict with the
organization after the existing structures have failed to resolve such
conflict or problem.
